The Simple Firestopping Solution

STOPPING THE SPREAD OF FIRE AND SMOKE

Commercial and industrial buildings, and the people who work in them, are safer because of strides made in the science of fire prevention and containment. Without proper firestopping measures, a fire can produce a devastating domino effect - spreading rapidly from room to room through unsealed or improperly sealed openings. Firetemp TM caulk and sprays confine flame and smoke to a specific area for 1 to 4 hours, providing much-needed extra time for safe evacuation of the building and firefighting efforts. Firetemp SE

FIRETEMP CAULK AND SPRAYS -
THREE PRODUCTS, MANY USES

Before you can use a firestop product, you have to determine whether it has been tested and certified for the specific installation you're planning. When you're faced with a wide array of competing products, selection becomes difficult, a single manufacturer often offers many different choices that are each limited in their use. As a result, you can end up ordering a wide assortment for one construction or remodeling project ... and that gets costly.

Johns Manville makes it much easier. Our three Firetemp products - an intumescent caulk, intumescent spray, and endothermic spray - have been listed by UL for use in more than 400 firestop applications. Ordering basically becomes deciding which container size or sizes you need.

Firetemp products are time-efficient and cost-effective. They're simple to install and water-based so clean up goes faster. You avoid two-part mixing. Therefore, no solvents or their fumes are involved. And there's no need to hassle with bulky collars, wraps or blankets when using the caulk.

FIRETEMP CAULK

A one-component, ready-to-use sealant system, this elastomeric gun-grade caulk is designed to firestop penetrations that pass through gypsum wall board, concrete, concrete block, and wood header and sill plates in horizontal and vertical applications. It can be used in both single-component systems and multi-component systems that incorporate mineral wool. Firetemp caulk controls the spread of fire, smoke, fumes, toxic gases, and water when exposed to open flames up to 2000° F (1093° C) for as long as 1 to 4 hours if installed correctly according to system designs listings.

Features of Firetemp Caulk:
Firetemp Caulk

FIRETEMP SPRAYS

Johns Manville offers two modified latex elastomeric sprays that can be sprayed, brushed, or rolled onto a surface in joint applications. One spray is an intumescent variety, meaning that it expands when exposed to a fire's intense heat and fills in gaps or voids. The other, an endothermic spray, will absorb heat from fire and provide a firestopping barrier. Both sprays control the spread of fire, smoke, fumes and water when exposed to open flames up to 1850° F (1010° C) for as long as 2 hours if installed correctly according to system designs listings.

Features of Firetemp Spray:

TESTING FOR RATINGS AND CERTIFICATION*

All Firetemp products are subjected to Fire Endurance Testing to meet or exceed the demanding criteria specified by the building industry. The results of these tests form the basis for the accredited testing agency's informational listings, which depict the correct use and installation procedures for these firestop products. The JM Firetemp caulk and sprays have passed these tests and are listed for more than 400 types of firestopping installations, with fire ratings of up to 4 hours.

*Products classified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL1479) and UL Canada (CAN/ULC 5115). Tested worldwide to ASTM E 814, ASTM E 119, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, AS 1530.4, BS 476, DIN 4102, ISO 834, and JIS A 1304. Firetemp fire protection products are asbestos-free and contain no PCBs.
